Maternal and Child Health Data in Central New York: Profiling High Risk Communities

Download

In 2010, we analyzed data from 2005-2007 births in central New York to identify “hot spot” communities with high poverty rates and a high risk of poor maternal and child health outcomes to determine where we should focus our funding and efforts.

To obtain a current picture of the high risk communities in the region, we commissioned Dr. Margaret Formica from the Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at SUNY Upstate Medical University to update the “hot spot” analysis using the most recently available data from the New York State Department of Health births from 2011-2013.

The current analysis includes an assessment of the demographic profiles and maternal and child health outcomes for the 157 zip codes of the eight counties within central New York.
