To assess the primary care safety net in western New York in 2007, John Snow, Inc., focused on access to primary medical, dental and mental health care for children living in poverty; consumer experience with the primary care safety net; and the information technology capacity of WNY’s safety net providers.
JSI surveyed safety-net providers, general providers, and more than 600 patients potentially served by safety-net providers. They also visited core primary care providers and met with stakeholders throughout the eight counties of western New York.
Key recommendations from this assessment were incorporated into our work to strengthen the region’s safety net. JSI conducted a second assessment of the WNY Safety Net in 2014.
