Overview
In partnership with Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, NY, this program was designed to enhance the clinical experience for patients with hearing or vision loss.
The project started with a series of operational improvements designed to ensure patients with significant hearing/vision loss were identified upon admission and that information was known by all members of the clinical team.
Once these improvements were made, staff were educated on techniques to enhance their interactions with patients with sensory loss so they could participate more fully in the clinical process.
Results
Crouse Hospital rolled out training sessions to all hospital units and departments in 2010. The hospital also developed online learning modules to use as an annual update for all employees.
It also developed an implementation guide so other health care organizations could implement this project.
