(Buffalo and Syracuse, NY) The Health Foundation for Western & Central New York has announced that Steven D. Timmel, of Buffalo, has joined the Board of Trustees. Mr. Timmel has more than three decades of experience in financial administration. His expertise and professional contributions to a variety of organizations, most of them not-for-profit, will help advance the Health Foundation’s vision of racial and socioeconomic health equity in western and central New York.
From 2019 until his retirement in 2024, Mr. Timmel served as Vice President of Finance – Affiliates, Independent Health Association. Previously, from 2004 to 2019, he served as Executive Director of Financial Administration for the Diocese of Buffalo, where he oversaw finances, accounting, insurance services, data information services, investment administration, lay and priest pension trust administration, and buildings and property management. From 1990 to 2003, he served as Diocese of Buffalo Controller.
In addition to the Health Foundation’s Board of Trustees, Mr. Timmel currently serves on the boards of the following organizations: Our Lady of Victory Charities in Lackawanna, Catholic Charities of Buffalo, and the Diocese of Buffalo. For the Diocese of Buffalo, he is Chair of the Lay Pension Committee. Outside of his board roles, he has contributed his expertise to the Catholic Health System, Independent Health YMCA, Delta Development, Inc. Senior Housing, Christian Brothers Investment Services, and Catholic United Investment Trust, a $10 billion family of mutual funds serving the Catholic community. He received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
