Please note this event has been canceled in response to COVID-19 public health concerns.
Join us for a presentation and panel discussion with Ira Byock, M.D., FAAHPM, a leading palliative care physician, author, and public advocate for improving care through the end of life. He is founder and chief medical officer of the Institute for Human Caring at Providence St. Joseph Health and author of Dying Well and The Best Care Possible.
Illness and dying cannot be fully encompassed by the problem-based model of medicine. Beyond symptoms and suffering, dying is a profound personal experience for the individual as well as for his or her family. The concept of “personhood” and the conceptual framework of human development will be presented as tools for understanding the nature of suffering and nature of opportunity associated with the time of human life we call “dying.”
Free and open to the public! This event is made possible through a partnership with D’Youville College, Hospice Buffalo and the Health Foundation.
