New York State’s Department of Health is seeking to improve health equity by integrating health and social care into the fabric of its Medicaid system via the goals of its recent 1115 Waiver. The state may provide an update as early as this spring on whether the waiver amendment will be approved by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
As neutral conveners, The John R. Oishei Foundation and the Health Foundation for Western & Central New York have been committed to creating opportunities for those in the social and health care sectors to learn about upcoming 1115 changes and participate in conversations on how to proceed in our region in an open, transparent, community-driven manner.
Our goal is to enable our community’s network of social and health care providers to take the lead in proactively collaborating on a fair and equitable approach to the 1115 process.
Share Your Thoughts at an Upcoming Listening Session
You are invited to attend a listening session with your peers in the community to continue the conversation on the 1115 waiver’s proposed Social Determinant of Health Networks and Health Equity Regional Organizations.
Many participants in previous 1115 convenings have expressed they need the opportunity for input; this is a chance to share your thoughts on what the process should entail to be a success for health equity.
Who Should Attend?
Leaders from social care community-based organizations, primary care, and behavioral health providers who want to work together on this process are encouraged to attend.
What to Expect at These Sessions
- This is not a presentation of information, but an opportunity for you to voice your thoughts and engage actively with your colleagues across the sector on this matter.
- The focus of these conversations will be social determinants of health, and the challenges community-based organizations have faced with value-based payment.
- We will want to hear what CBOs and heath care providers want to see in the Social Determinant of Health Networks.
- The information shared in these listening sessions will be compiled and shared publicly to help inform the continued 1115 decision-making process.
