Co-Creating-Well-Being

Community agencies and service providers serving young children five and under and their families in Central New York are invited to participate in TWO FREE training opportunities.

Human-Centered Design
Wednesday, February 13, 2019
8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Syracuse, NY

This full day training on human-centered design will be facilitated by Overlap Associates of Kitchener, Canada. Human-centered design is an iterative, collaborative approach to problem-solving that puts the needs of people experiencing a problem at the core. It uses a set of activities and engagement tools to deeply understand people’s experiences, generating ideas to meet those needs, and then implementing innovative and practical solutions. The workshop introduces key concepts such as: problem definition and prototyping and go-to methods such as empathy mapping and design research with hands-on design exercises. The practical nature of the workshop means you’ll be able to apply your learnings the very same day.  There will be FREE CEU for LMSW/LCSW and LMHC for this training.

Children, Families and Trauma:  What we need to know to support healing and resilience
Friday, March 8, 2019
8: 30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Syracuse, NY

This full day training will provide an opportunity for local agencies to collaborate and build knowledge to better support children and families who are living with the experiences and effects of trauma. We will explore the meaning and impact of trauma, toxic stress, and adversity on human development, particularly related to the perinatal period and early childhood development. Collectively, we will investigate the confluence of social determinants of health (circumstances of poverty, housing, education systems, etc.) and trauma, toxic stress, and adversity for children and families, and examine theoretical models that help to explain intergenerational cycles of vulnerability. Together we will apply principles of trauma-informed care and co-create strategies for supporting resilience in children, families, our agencies, communities, and within ourselves. FREE New York State LMSW, LCSW, and LMHC contact hours available pending approval decision.
