Funding supports health-related programming at WBFO, WRVO

Grantee Reports

The Health Foundation for Western and Central New York has awarded grant funding to WBFO-FM in Western New York and WRVO Public Media in central New York to support health-related news and programming.

Grant funding for WBFO-FM will establish a News Desk focused on major issues and topics affecting older adults that often are under reported by other media sources. Sandy White, an award-winning journalist with two decades of experience in western New York media, will serve as the lead reporter on the Seniors News Desk.

Funding for WRVO will support the production of “Take Care,” the station’s health and wellness show, along with other health-related news programming. Take Care explores a variety of health and health care-related topics, drawing upon the expertise of regional and national authorities on health care, public policy, medicine, technology, psychology and human behavior.

“As a foundation that is focused on making a difference in the health of young children and older adults across Western and Central New York, we are excited to be able to provide support for initiatives that will give listeners a deeper understanding of the challenges older adults and children in our community face and the potential opportunities we have to address those challenges,” Health Foundation President Nora OBrien-Suric said.
