
Arthur R. Goshin, M.D., M.P.H (Advisor)
Arthur Goshin, MD, MPH, has had a successful 50+ year career in health care. He began by leading the development and management of a network of five community health centers in neighborhoods of poverty in Upstate New York, while also serving as assistant commissioner and deputy commissioner of a large public health district, Erie County. He was the Founder, President and CEO of a large, well-regarded New York State not-for-profit health plan (HealthCarePlan/Univera) serving Buffalo, Syracuse and Long Island that he grew to over 500,000 members during a 30 year period.
He was the founder, and is the advisor, of the Health Foundation for Western & Central New York, established by using resources from his health plan that serves older adults and children impacted by poverty. Dr. Goshin has been a Clinical Professor at the University at Buffalo since 1970 where he also received the University’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2015. He was actively engaged in creating its School of Public Health and Health Professions, chairing its Dean’s Advisory Council. Dr. Goshin also served as an Adjunct Professor at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, and as visiting faculty at the University of Michigan’s School of Public Health.
Post ‘retirement,’ he led the creation of the University’s global health initiatives, and provides global health fellowships for students. He served as a consultant/advisor on health-related projects in Bolivia, the Philippines and India funded by the Gates Foundation. Since 2006, he has had his own foundation (HealthyWorld Foundation) providing support, through 30 NGOs, for 40 health care projects mostly in remote rural areas of extreme poverty of India and Uganda. He recently initiated three projects in partnership with the Bedouin community in Israel.
He has been a founder and board chair of national health care organizations interested in advancing the quality of care and effectiveness of not-for-profit entities, and was a co-founder/board chair of a medical record technology company. Dr. Goshin has been a long time board member of a global organization (Freedom from Hunger/Grameen Foundation) involved in health care and using technology and learning to advance agriculture and livelihood. Presently, he also serves as a board member for MJHS Health System, which includes a research institute, a health plan for the elderly, a large hospice program, another foundation, and two nursing homes.
He has a Bachelor’s Degree and Medical Degree from the University at Buffalo, and his Master of Public Health from the University of Michigan.
He has authored several books of poetry and photography (arthurgoshinbooks.com). Dr. Goshin splits his time living between New York City and Santa Fe, New Mexico.
