At “Going the Distance in Western New York” speakers discuss health care access challenges rural areas face and share their perspectives on how western New York could learn from models of success around the nation.
Like many rural areas across the country, rural western New York faces challenges like physician shortages, resource-strapped small hospitals, lack of access to primary care and insurance gaps.
At “Going the Distance in Western New York: Optimizing Rural Access to High-Quality Health Care,” Paul S. Frame, M.D., physician, Tri-County Family Medicine, Cohocton, NY and Jeffrey A. Stearns, M.D., associate dean of the Milwaukee Clinical Campus of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and Director of Medical Education for Aurora Health Care, shared how other regions across the U.S. are reaching rural populations.
This event was part of the “Excellence for Tomorrow: Innovative Approaches for WNY Health Care” Speaker Series that showcased innovative health care solutions to critical issues like racial and ethnic health care disparities, preparing our health care system for an aging population, reinforcing the health care safety net and ensuring children are emotionally prepared for school.
