Kicked Out of Kindergarten: Strengthening Emotional and Behavioral Health in Early Childhood

At “Kicked Out of Kindergarten,” nationally recognized speakers discussed the importance of strengthening the emotional and behavioral health of young children even before they enter school.

Emotional and social skills are essential building blocks for a child’s success, and many children enter school unprepared to learn due to delayed emotional, social and behavioral development.

At “Kicked Out of Kindergarten: Strengthening Emotional and Behavioral Health in Early Childhood,” Paul H. Dworkin, M.D., professor and chair of the Department of Pediatrics, University of Connecticut School of Medicine, and physician-in-chief, Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, along with Charles Biss, MSW director, Child and Adolescent Family Services, Vermont Department of Mental Health, talked about the growing need for early detection and treatment and the importance of creating continuity and collaboration in early pediatric care.

This event was part of the “Excellence for Tomorrow: Innovative Approaches for WNY Health Care” Speaker Series that showcased innovative health care solutions to critical issues like racial and ethnic health care disparities, preparing our health care system for an aging population, reinforcing the health care safety net and health care access for rural populations.
